Our Mission

The Englewood Community Land Trust (ECLT) works to stimulate and support the reuse of vacant land in Englewood for urban farming, affordable housing, open spaces, and other community needs. ECLT will serve as a vehicle for collective opportunity and community control over the land and resources in Greater Englewood.

ECLT functions as a democratically-governed, non-profit organization of residents and local partner organizations committed to building a healthy, just, and vibrant Englewood.

Our Values

  • Defend and protect now, as we build forward (right to stay and thrive)

  • Community control

  • Permanent affordability

  • Wealth building (especially for low- and moderate-income families)

  • Healthy and sustainable development

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Englewood Community Land Trust shall be:

  • To advance community-led land stewardship and ownership by providing opportunities for low and moderate income people to secure housing on a long-term basis, that is decent and affordable.

  • To permanently preserve land for locally owned and managed farms, market and community gardens.

  • To provide opportunities for low and moderate income farmers to lease agricultural land at affordable rates, on a long-term basis.

  • To combat community deterioration in Englewood by establishing a housing defense fund that facilitates retention and maintenance of affordable housing.

  • To provide land for projects and activities that improve the quality of life in Englewood and improve the safety and well-being of the community.

  • To demonstrate sustainable land use and planning for environmental purposes and resource conservation.

  • To protect the natural environment and to promote the ecologically sound use of natural resources and the long-term health, safety, and well-being of the community.
